The Visit Japan Website

visit japan web qrThis new service is available on the Visit Japan Website where you can use the provided online service for Quarantine, Immigration and Customs procedures.

Since I am leaving for Japan within two weeks after writing this article, I went to the website and set up an account using my PC. There are four main categories of information that you are requested to provide.

  • Flight Information
  • Passport Information
  • Vaccination Information
  • Customs Information

Besides using a desktop computer you can use your smartphone. But whichever you use, the presentation of the form you are required to fill out is the same.

Although the app recommends that you scan your passport so that the app will automatically read it and input your name, passport number and related data automatically, I found it to be impossible after attempting about 5 or 6 times and so input the information manually.

Since you will also have to take photos of your Covid 19 vaccination record, you may find it easier to use your smartphone. Otherwise, if you take photos of your vaccination records with your smartphone, you will have to take extra steps to move them over to your computer.

The QR at the top of this page will take you to the Visit Japan Website.

Some General Information

Note that although Japan is now open to travelers from all countries or regions (see below for one exception), you are required to have a valid vaccination certificate showing at least 3 inoculations or a Covid-19 negative test certificate (the test must be conducted within 72 hours prior to your scheduled departure time).

For arrivals from most countries from October 11th, 2022, a visa is no longer required to visit Japan. To enter Japan tourists simply need to return a negative PCR test within 72 hours of departure, OR provide a valid Covid-19 certificate of having had at least 3 vaccine doses (the certificate needs to be uploaded onto Visit Japan web).

All travelers and returnees arriving from China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) by direct flights are required to submit a certificate of negative result of pre-departure COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours prior to departure.

Please note that due to the regularly changing situation, it is essential for you to always check and follow the latest guidance.
